5VIE INTERVIEW ANDREA ROSSO - Creative Director Diesel Licences
From the idea to the project: tell us about your project, how did it start, what does it start from and how does it interact with the area?
Everything comes from a
journey. It’s all a mix of different scenarios, colors, materials,
compositions, atmospheres, places’ vibes, visual effects and the first impact
with a specific place, all is melt together and become the experience we
inherited from a journey, that then we bring to life, changing from abstract to
real.
Where do you live? How is your house?
I live in a small Town: Bassano del Grappa, but in my house, there’s all the world.
it's the result of all the travels I have been doing all over the years, I would rather say that's look like more a warehouse, it’s a huge collection that put together all the objects I've brought with me from all these experiences.
Which are the design items in your house that you would never do without?
I do not have fine design pieces, I like to find beauty and art from the unexpected. For instance, an object I am attached to is an old aluminum drawer of a 70’s desk which has found new life becoming a shelf or even a vase for flowers, it depends. and again, an old wheelhouse of a Russian helicopter that in my house has become a complementary furniture.
Why surface treatment and treated surfaces’ power of suggestion are so important in your work?
Treating surfaces is essential for us, just think of the fact that a mat surface is enhanced by its exact opposite: a glossy one, and vice versa. one Opposite to another to enhance each other, to reverse the surfaces' stereotype . Even our constant research on finishes is important in our work, the details coming from the street, from everything that surrounds us and from our travels obviously.
In your opinion, what is the relation among drawing, handicraft and industrial production?
I have always admired those wh o draw and the paper dream coming to life and becoming product. With our partners, we can realize the design almost 100%. We are fascinated by the industrial production because even if it is a repetition on a scale, using special treatments, shapes and materials and the attention to details we can give it an handcraft taste.
What does the future of design look like?
We will wear Design.
