About

Founded in 1980 in Cologne by Benedikt Taschen, TASCHEN is today one of the most important publishers of books related to the image: architecture, art, design, fashion, cinema, lifestyle and photography.
It has become famous worldwide for its quality editions at affordable prices, and today also boasts an important catalogue of limited-edition and XL-format titles with accessories created by great designers: true collectors' items.

In 2015, the first TASCHEN bookshop in Italy opened in Milan. 120 sqm on two levels dedicated to a unique selection of image books. On the ground floor the new releases and best sellers from the catalogue are displayed, on the first floor a room for limited edition titles and a space for exhibitions.
The most spectacular pieces of furniture in the bookshop come from the personal collection of the founder and soul of the project Benedikt Taschen: the large pendant lamp from the 1950s designed by Giò Ponti and the extraordinary chandelier by Flavio Poli for Archimede Seguso (1954) that illuminates the exhibition space.
The rest of the furnishings are also a tribute to Italian genius: on the ground floor there is a table by Angelo Mangiarotti and on the first floor other pieces designed by Giò Ponti. The flagship store also marks a new chapter in the collaboration between TASCHEN and Marc Newson. For the Milan space, Newson has designed a modular shelving unit and wall panels/shelves in matt burnished metal and large drawer units where the transparent top becomes a showcase for the volumes on display.

The floors on the two floors are the work of Jonas Wood, an American artist who designed a tropical jungle of leaves and giant orchids, using a technique that combines resin, Venetian terrazzo and brass details.
