Secci Gallery is pleased to announce Sebastiano Sofia's new solo exhibition on June 8, 2023, in the gallery spaces dedicated to NOVO in Via Olmetto 1, Milan. The works, created during his time spent in residence in Florence starting in January 2023, will be on display until September 16, 2023.;

The works of Sebastiano Sofia give life to his personal iconographic universe, where the human body, the animal world and the domain of things find a home and dialogue with each other. His human and melancholic language, which is generated from absurd and violent gestures, intends to investigate the dichotomies and contrasts between feminine and masculine, between human and animal, between body as a place of control and at the same time as a space of irrationality. Imagery is not so much the reproduction of a visual memory but rather a sensory memory that is activated in relation to the other and with its surroundings. From this emerges an anthropomorphic aesthetic without a precise identity.

His practice is exquisitely personal, meditative, enclosed in its intimacy and enclosed in its experience. What the artist invites us to observe "are 'landscapes' that I carry within me, the pages of a single diary. A photo album of both lived and inner memories, memories that are a mixture of vision and movement."

Sebastiano Sofia (Verona, 1986) lives and works between Verona and Milan. He has participated in various artist residencies including: Viafarini in residence (Milan) in 2013, Bevilacqua La Masa (Venice) in 2015, Maraya Art Center (Sharjah, UAE) in 2018, Palmieri Collection in 2021 and De Iorio Collection in 2021/2022. Solo exhibitions include Marèa at Boccanera Gallery in Milan in 2022 with a text by Alessandro Rabottini, Anemone at Palazzo Monti in Brescia in 2019 with a text by Denis Isaia, Remember me, curated by Laura Metzler at Maraya Art Center in Sharjah (UAE) in 2018, Natural Metamorphosis at Fatma Lootah Gallery in Dubai (UAE) in 2017, and Ariel at CAR Drde in Bologna in 2016.
