Garbelli proves to have been to all intents and purposes a forerunner of the so-called Urban Art, an enlightened precursor of the most recent artistic manifestations of the genre. In addition to urban installations, public art projects, his production has touched different techniques - from resin sculptures with which he recreates real "pieces of the sea" of extraordinary visual effectiveness, to the use of the video and photographic medium - mastered always with great familiarity and intellectual honesty, never following any kind of seductive fashionable forcing, keeping alive and defending his own autonomy.

For Gilda's Wall presents "Milan Portrait." Milan in recent years has literally changed its face. Between completely new neighborhoods or redeveloped districts undergoing transformation, the city now appears completely transformed in many of its areas. Francesco Garbelli portrays these changes by redrawing the skylines of the metropolis from different perspectives and shots. As an attentive witness, he does not record the changes only from the physical-formal point of view but captures their possible contradictions-such as the danger of excessive gentrification-expressing moods and different points of view. Always armed with his proverbial irony he entrusts these messages to paradoxical signs that he inserts into the urban context creating synergies or sometimes short circuits between signs, icons and the city. All achieved through the use of stencils and spray paint, the typical technique of street art painting, while the signs are printed on reflective adhesive films, the same ones that are applied to road signs.
