The exhibition "Riches to Rags" reflects Markus Benesch's internal commitment to the urgent need for a reconsideration of the design process in light of the climate crisis. With unwavering optimism, Benesch explores various avenues to make sustainability an integral part of design. The exhibition sees sustainability not as a simple addition but as an essential core. He emphasizes that future design is only possible if sustainability is embedded in the DNA of the artefacts.
The exhibition showcases various approaches through different furniture, objects and wallpapers, addressing the topic both aesthetically and thematically.
“Riches to Rags” will showcase his personal approach to evaluating future projects. Here, aesthetics, functionality and sustainability are the fundamental values of the object. Integration of materials that are carbon negative and promote biodiversity. Explain this interior design process and demonstrate how functionality and aesthetics will be affected by these parameters. He aims to incorporate up to 50% salvaged or existing objects into his designs. Creativity will be used to transform existing objects, honoring the past and looking to the future. Objects will be repaired, altered and repurposed, resulting in a new aesthetic. Using sustainable materials not only affects the way things look, but also the way they are made. Offering a special design service for redesigning existing furniture. In doing so, it respects the essence of furniture and works to enhance its new role.
