Cavallerizze
Via Olona, 4
Atelier Bowy C.D., operating within Henzel Studio, presents The Atelier Editions at Le Cavallerizze within
the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci during Milan Design Week.
Bringing together nine international architects and designers, the platform introduces editioned works that expand the
handmade rug beyond its conventional role. Through material experimentation, relief, gesture, and structural variation, each
piece is conceived first and foremost as sculptural form.
Developed in close collaboration with Atelier Bowy C.D., the works are produced using advanced hand-knotting techniques
and material research. Each design is released in a limited edition of 20 + 1 artist proof, establishing a long-term collectible
framework positioned between architecture and collectible design.
Installed within Le Cavallerizze — the former Austrian stables reconfigured through a contemporary intervention by Luca
Cipelletti — the presentation unfolds across three custom-built architectural volumes conceived specifically for the space.
Works are mounted as vertical planes and extend across the floor as spatial interruptions, engaging directly with the brick,
cement, and exposed structural elements of the site.
Participating Architects and Designers
Adam Court (Cape Town) — Drawing on music, identity, and the symbolism of the punk-era studded bracelet, Court translates a
motif of self-expression into sculptural textile form.
Alexander Díaz Andersson (Mexico City) — Díaz Andersson explores stratification and organic rupture through varied pile
structures and irregular perimeters that read as formed rather than composed.
Andrée Cooke (London) — Cooke enlarges fragments of urban residue into elongated textile bodies that occupy space as
found presences.
Annysa LaMantia (Atlanta / New York) — LaMantia presents a work from her capsule Continuum, where surface pressure,
exposed threads, and tonal shifts evoke sedimentation and transformation.
Fernando Mastrangelo (New York) — Mastrangelo translates extraction landscapes into woven topography, compressing
mineral logic and geological processes into layered relief.
Fernanda Marques (São Paulo) — Marques approaches the rug through landscape logic, integrating relief zones and
recessed metallic elements into irregular topographic formations.
Pietro Franceschini (Milan / New York) — Franceschini examines spatial perception and architectural layering through woven
geometry.
Sacha Andraos, Lorenzo Scisciani, and Salvatore Morales (Milan / London) — The trio translates generative digital modeling
into tactile form, resolving algorithmic systems through hand process.
Suchi Reddy (New York) — Extending her sculptural practice, Reddy develops a work that moves between wall and floor,
activating space through her principle “Form Follows Feeling” and evoking the shifting light of landscape.
The Atelier Editions
The Atelier Editions is a long-term curatorial initiative within Henzel Studio, founded in 1999, advancing the handmade rug through
sustained material research and editioned collaborations with architects and designers. Operating under the creative direction of
Calle Henzel, the platform positions the rug as a site for sculptural and architectural exploration, extending Henzel Studio’s long-
standing engagement with art, architecture, and craft.
