In line with the Maison's spirit of innovation and continuous overcoming the limits of glass art, Veronese decided to create a piece that would surprise while remaining faithful to its heritage. The Maison therefore turned to Dan Yeffet for a second collaboration, attracted by the curious and adventurous spirit that characterizes the Israeli designer's creations. The concept of the Memento stool immediately fascinated Ruben Jochimek, Artistic Director of Veronese, who saw its elegant lines as a challenge to Veronese's commitment to constantly push the boundaries of contemporary glass art.
At the basis of Memento's creation, the real challenge was faced in the combination of its remarkable size, pattern and end use. It took more than a year of research and development to create his intricate 350-kilo mold, assembled with several pieces. It takes as many as 5 craftsmen to handle it and transform an imposing volume of glass into a refined and functional object. The mastery of this production required numerous tests to obtain the expected results in terms of texture, glass thickness and color depth.
Memento's design has led master craftsmen to overcome previous limitations and reach a new milestone in the art of Murano glass. For two millennia, since the famous glassblower Ennione started the craft during the Roman Empire, master craftsmen have developed, with perseverance and creativity, this ancient savoir-faire. Veronese is honored to belong to this heritage and to assume, in 2020, the responsibility of carrying on their legacy.
