“Through this work I invite viewers to conceive of energy as something that

can become matter and at the same time transcend it. An elemental,

alchemical energy, like a flame that does not burn but continuously

regenerates itself while inhabiting the world.”

With this new edition of The Flame That Does Not Burn, Giuditta Vettese continues

her research, which began in 2024 with the bronze sculpture of the same name,

created with the support of Sali e Tabacchi Journal at Fonderia Battaglia.

Within the spaces of Le Cavallerizze, the sculpture becomes a domestic altar, a

space for intimate contemplation, a place of honor and care. On the edge of

eroticism, a large concentric and concave body of glazed ceramic is conceived

to hold water, the guarantor of life, an enigma that can take any form, in many

cultures a symbol of purification and cyclicality, often also used as a ritual vehicle.

Giuditta Vettese’s formal research draws inspiration from ancient cultural and

religious symbols, exploring the dimension of the organic in which circularity

finds expression. Another fundamental source remains the human body, which,

through its sensoriality, is a space where matter and psychic energy converge in the

gift of existence.

A unique piece, handmade with the expertise of Faenza ceramic artisans, The

Flame That Does Not Burn is a meditation on the body and on the circle as a state

of continuous generation: an oxymoronic and paradoxical flame that does not burn, a

metaphor for the eternal transformation and renewal of vital force.

During the days of the Salone, the work becomes the focal point of several brief

performative moments by the artist, in which gesture becomes ritual and,

oscillating between body and sound, narrates the importance of our relationship

with objects and their language, through which human beings construct themselves.

A range of sensors programmed by composer Jacopo Gino transforms movement

into sound, translating the interaction between ceramic, water, and the human body.
